reasons that prevent you from finding a job


Sometimes there are difficulties with search of a new job. And only their overcoming will help to find a desirable post. So, what can disturb in you during such search?

1. Absence of the list of your own achievements

When you are absolutely happy at your present workplace, there is nothing surprising that thoughts on potential necessity of search of a new work do not visit you. And it is absolutely vain. You never know, when the situation can change, and you will start searches. Therefore it is better to start making a list of your awards, increases and achievements at once, not to forget including them in your resume later.

2. To leave with scandal

In spite of the fact that in imaginations you already stated everything you think to your chief-petty tyrant and shut the door with a bang, in reality you should not do this. An annoyed chief or a colleague can backfire on you in future, when you will need responses from your previous place of work.

3. Silent work search

If you do not tell anybody that you search for work, your relatives, friends and colleagues cannot help you, if they suddenly hear about this or that vacancy.

4. To use only Internet.

Bases of vacancies located in the Network, undoubtedly, give magnificent possibilities for search. However, be ready that for finding of a new work you should search as lot. Do not hesitate to contact companies interesting you, even if they are not interested in a set of new employees at present. Remember that not all companies carry out search openly.

5. To search for work that approaches you ideally.

Undoubtedly, your searches should be selective. It is not necessary to respond to each announcement of hiring that only will catch your sight, otherwise it becomes time waste, not an effective way to find a work which would approach you. However, if you go in cycles in a concrete post, size of a payment or holiday time, that is every chance that you learn bitterness of disappointment.

6. Composing a muffled covering letter.

If your covering letter looks as if it was made by a text editor and is thus addressed “to Any whom it can interest”, you should not send it at all. An employee who is engaged in work with personnel, will search for a candidate, who is interested in reception of a concrete post, instead of one who is engaged in mass dispatch. You should write a separate covering letter for each taken vacancy, having mentioned details, which can be of interest for the company-employer.

7. Make mistakes.

If you send a resume or covering letter, containing grammatical errors or typing errors, it will let employer know that you do not care of quality of work performed by you, and about the work itself.

8. Specify contact information from a current place of work, as the best way to contact you.

Providing a future employer with possibility to contact you for certain is, undoubtedly, important. But they should not communicate with you in operating time. A potential employer can reflect: “Well, in future he also will be engaged in searches of new work in working hours?”

9. Tell only about yourself in a covering letter

Nobody likes to be waiting, especially personnel managers which define if you are a good worker for them.

12. Dress the wrong way.

Your clothes should correspond to a dress-code accepted in the company, or even be one level above. If office dress-code assumes business daily clothes, and you will come in jeans and a T-shirt, it hardly will give you a side benefit. On the other hand, if you were told to come in daily clothes, a strict suit will look inappropriate.

13. Not to set any questions.

When an interview comes to an end, a manager will undoubtedly take an interest, whether you have any questions. If questions are not present, this will mean this work is not too interesting to you.

14. Talk bad about your former chief.

When you talk to a hiring expert about your previous employer, you speak simultaneously also about this employer in future. The way you respond about last place of work will let an interviewer know how you will respond about future management.

15. To be inattentive.

Another way to show you are not interested in this work at all - to distract on extraneous things constantly. To answer phone calls or dig in your own portfolio - this is absolutely inadmissible, otherwise your employer will consider your attention is concentrated on everything, except the interview.

16. Not to have representation about a post you apply for.

During interview you need to convince an employer that you are an ideal candidate for an offered post. Your primary goal consists in this. If you have no the slightest representation about skills you have to possess for work in this post and duties, you have no chances.

17. Not to study the company you are going to work in.

An employer wishes to be assured that your desire to get this work has rather strong motivation. If you show knowledge of history of the company, its culture and purposes, you will prove that you really wish to become a part of the company.

18. Neglect etiquette bases.

Do not swear, do not ruminate, do not remove footwear, and do not do anything at all, that is absolutely inadmissible in business conditions. It is not necessary to give an employer an occasion to refuse to you.

19. Forget that you are on interview.

If you do not sit at a table opposite to a personnel manager, this does not mean you are not estimated. An employer often asks a secretary in a reception, whether you were kind with her. Even if your interview assumes a joint dinner or supper, remember that you try to get a job, instead of showing an ability to drink a vodka bottle.

20. Ask a salary question too early.

According to standard rules, you should not mention your future salary the first. Give an employer the right to take the first step. Do not doubt, he precisely knows that you are interested in this question very much, therefore he will undoubtedly sound the size of indemnification due to you. But when, in his opinion, there will come a right moment for this purpose. Demonstration of heightened interest \ to a monetary question will allow to assume that your interest directly to work is not too great.

After interview

21. An interview etiquette is stretched far beyond farewell hand shake.

Do not forget to express your gratitude to an interviewer by means of sending of electronic message or usual letter. It is not only a part of a standard business practice, but also a usual gesture of politeness.

22. Remind of yourself after an interview unduly aggressively.

Your gratitude for time found for you is quite comprehensible to interview. Also you can call in a company office to learn whether a vacancy is free or not, of course, if you were informed on a decision-making deadline. Nevertheless, constant calls, electronic letters, and visits to an office are extremely undesirable, as they bother strongly.

23. Not to study on own errors.

Any interview cannot pass absolutely smoothly - errors are inevitable. Therefore it is not necessary to execute yourself for this or that oversight. However, if you do not find time to study your mistakes during last interviews, you are fated to walk twice into the same water again.

24. To forget which vacancies you already have responded to and what interviews you’ve visited.

For some weeks of active searches you will send your resume in several tens addresses and for certain will pass an interview in some companies. In due course it becomes difficult to recollect, which companies you already addressed and where participated in interview. The reference in the same company on the same post will force an employer to think that you will accept any variant which has turned up under your hand.

25. To stop work search in a waiting time of the answer of one of potential employers.

Even if your interview in the company of your dream passed successfully, it is not necessary to stop searches, while an employer has not accepted a final decision. Owing to the various reasons, you can be refused. Besides, in this time you can come across more interesting variant. In any case, you will lose nothing if you continue your searches.
